Services
Children are placed at the Pythian Home by the managing conservator. There is a six week probation period during which the child does not have contact with the family. This allows the child time to adjust to the rules and regulations of the Home and those enforcing the rules and regulations.
The Home strives to meet the basic needs of each child. The staff works with the child in the first thirty days of placement to develop a plan of service. The plan of service consists of short and long term goals to work on with the child in five areas: family, social, educational, emotional, and physical.
The Director of Child Care takes the information provided by the managing conservator (during the intake) as well as the information for the direct care staff to develop the plan of service. This plan of service is reviewed every six months with the managing conservator. The input from the managing conservator is just as important as that of the staff.
The children live in dormitories with a married couple. The role of the dorm parent is to provide counsel as the need arises. There are no more than eight children placed in a dorm. The children are strongly encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activates. Some of those activities include soccer, football, little league, band, choir, junior league basketball, girl and boy scouts, and 4-H. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for a happy, memorable childhood.
The Pythian Home children attend public schools.Weatherford Independent school District has been very cooperative in providing the best education possible. The teachers within the district have gone the extra mile for our children. Every student is expected to work to their potential. There is a reward system for doing your best. There is also the no pass no play rule that is followed at the school. A student cannot participate in the extra-curricular activities if they fail a class. They are restricted to campus until the next report card is issued with all passing grades.
There are two weekends a month that our children are off campus. The second weekend of the month, the children go with their sponsor families. Sponsor families are an extension of the Home and have gone through a thorough background check. The child has one family that they become a part of for that weekend each month. This gives the child a role model of what family is all about. The fourth weekend the children go home with their own families. We do have guest rooms available for those without lodging. It is important for a child to remain in contact with the family working to have them return home.
The two weekends our children are off campus are the days off for the dorm parents. Sunday afternoon is family visitation on the two weekends our children remain on campus. Families are asked to make arrangements in advance to visit.
