The Pythian Home accepts children between the ages of three and thirteen. The children may remain in placement as long as they are attending school. They may remain while attending college, trade school or vocational school. Education is a priority. Our goal is to make every child in our care learn responsibility and independence.
The children of the Pythian Home are placed due to problems within their family units. We do not take children being placed by the state. Placement can only be made by the managing conservator.
There are three primary reasons why children are placed at the Texas Pythian Home.
1. Financially the parent is not able to provide properly for a child on a day to day basis. Usually it is a single parent that quit school to start a family, without an education the parent cannot provide for the child. The child is placed at the Home to provide the parent an opportunity to go back to school, get a GED, get a job and put money aside to provide proper care for their child.
2. Physical reasons may keep a parent from being at home with their children due to being in the hospital for major surgeries or illnesses. Grandparents are becoming main caregivers and physically are not up to taking care of a smaller child. When the child is old enough to do for themselves, he or she is able to return home.
3. Emotionally parents take on the role of a child. At an early age, the child becomes the caregiver. The child does the cooking, cleaning, washes clothes, etc. It is usually recommended to that parent to receive professional help. The child is placed at the Pythian Home to receive proper care and to be able to be a child.
