Employment
The Pythian Home employs approximately seventeen people. Each dorm has a married couple in the role of parent overseeing the children placed in their care. There is also a maintenance supervisor, two cooks, and five office employees, consisting of a secretary, a business manager, director of childcare and the Home’s administrator. The Pythian Home is governed by a Board of Directors. The board is made up of twelve members. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman serve only one year terms. They are Grand Chancellor and Vice Grand Chancellor of the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of Texas. Other board members serve three year terms, eligible to serve two consecutive terms. Members are selected at the annual convention of Pythians in June of each year.Dorm Parents
It is the dormparents that are the backbone of the Home. Each dorm has a married couple in the role of parent overseeing the children placed in their care. They are responsible for the everyday workings of the dorm to insure the children are properly cared for and working on the goals established for each of them. It takes a special person to be able to handle the daily demands of the job. The children placed in care come from various backgrounds and placing them in situations where they have to come together in a common bond can be difficult. It is the dormparents patience and understanding that really makes a difference in the life of a child who often doesn't have the luxury of early training, good moral values or high self-esteem. We are thankful that there are still people willing to give up their personal time to be a positive role model. They are changing lives and preparing these children to become happy, well-adjusted adults. We commend each of them.If you would like to apply for this important, life-changing position, please download the Staff Application in Microsoft Word format below. Staff Application
