Child Placement
Circumstances are often reason why children cannot live with their parents. Such circumstances as death, divorce, chemical dependency, adjudication, abuse or neglect create an environment that is not safe for a child. Families find themselves homeless and have no idea where the next meal will come from. There is help for these families.
The Pythian Home provides a safe haven for these children until the parent can once again provide for them. There are three main reasons why children are placed in the Home.
First and foremost is financial. In most cases, a single parent quit school to start a family. Without an education they can’t find a good job with an adequate salary. Without the salary, the parent cannot properly provide for there daily basis. By placing their children, the parent can complete their education, get a good job, and set aside money to provide on a long term basis.
Second is physical. It is amazing the number of grandparents raising grandchildren. Their physical abilities are pushed to the limit while trying to keep up with three to eight year olds. Once they place the child in the Home, they can resume the role of grandparent. The child is able to have a normal childhood. As the child matures and becomes more independent, they can return to the family without being physically exhausting. Anther aspect is the parent that needs rehabilitation for an extended length of time. The child is placed in home rather than constantly being shuffled from place to place. This also applies to parents that are incarcerated. Once the parent is back on their feet and able to support the family, the child is reunited.
The third main reason for placement is emotional. The managing conservator is on the edge of emotional instability. The child at an early age becomes the caregiver: cooks, cleans, washes, and literally makes adults decisions. The child is placed in the Home to provide the stability needed but also is allowed a childhood. The parent is able to receive professional assistance. These and other extenuating circumstances may call for a child to be in “out of home” placement for a period of time.
The Pythian Home is here to meet the individual needs of every child in our care.
