Mission Statement
The Texas Pythian Home, Inc. provides a safe, stable environment for children to grow physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually to become responsible, independent adults.
Who are we?
The Texas Pythian Home for children is the ‘Castle on the Hill.’ It was built with the architecture of a castle due to the sponsorship or the Knights. The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal order established back during the Civil War. Pythians saw the need to put their motto of Friendship, Charity and Benevolence into practice and established the Pythian home.
The Pythian Home is licensed by Texas Protective and Regulatory Services for sixty-two children. This license requires certain standards to be maintained at all times. A licensing representative makes official visits to the Home to insure standards are met. Our intake is for children age three to fourteen. The children may remain in residence as long as they are in school. This includes college, vocational or trade school. We have some criteria that must be met for placement of a child. The managing conservator is the only one able to place or withdraw a child. The children come form anywhere in the state of Texas. At one time, a Pythian connection was required for placement. Now a child can be placed by meeting the criteria.
Most of the children placed in our care do still have family. The family is working to have the children return home. We are licensed as basic child care facility; therefore, we do not handle adoptions.
Where are we?
The Home is located on 120 acres on the east side of Weatherford. The campus includes a softball field, tennis and volleyball courts, a swimming pool and various barns in addition to the main building and dormitories. The children are housed in dormitories with a couple as house parents. There are 8 to10 children in each dorm with a capacity for 62 children total. Residents attend public schools and local churches. They also participate in extra curricular activities such as soccer, football, basketball, band, scouts, etc. We attempt to give the children a childhood with opportunities and positive experiences.
